A relative of onion and garlic, American Flag Leeks taste like onions and will add color and flavor to any micro-salad or egg dish.
When chopped, leek microgreens smell like sweet onions, and their flavor is similar to mature leeks.
The finished microgreen is a long, slender green similar to miniature chives. Use leek microgreens as an onion substitute — fantastic on hamburgers, soups, garnishes, and more.
A small amount of leek microgreens goes a long way, as the onion flavor can overpower a dish if used too heavily.
Harvest leek microgreens when they reach a height of 2 1/2- to 4 inches.
Leeks will re-grow after harvest! You can get at least two or three cuttings.
The thin green stem will more than not have the remains of the black seed resting at the tip. So the seed pod isn’t much of an issue when cooking. If it bothers you, rinse them off with running water.
Leeks are ready to harvest between 12 and 15 days after sowing.
