Leisure Cilantro Microgreen Seed Highlights

  • Germination: 3 to 6 days – presoaking shortens germination time but not the harvest.
  • Soak: Often recommended, but not necessary.
  • Harvest: 21 to 28 days.
  • Flavor: Cilantro
  • Nutrients: High in Vitamins A, C, and especially K; high in calcium, iron, and phosphorus.

Leisure Cilantro (the seed is also called coriander) is a medium to deep green, fragrant microgreen. Cilantro microgreens have a more intense flavor than mature cilantro.

Growing cilantro microgreens at home will save you money, and the cilantro will be much more flavorful than store-bought cilantro.

Cilantro is a popular flavoring in many cuisine types worldwide, including seasoning and garnishes for Chinese, Vietnamese, and Mexican dishes.

Whole cilantro seeds contain two seeds. We call these “splits” because the whole seed is divided into two halves.

We believe the cilantro split seed is easier to grow, and most people get better results using split seeds.

The seeds take time to germinate and mature but are well worth it. When harvested at the first true leaf (as opposed to the cotyledon) stage, it may take over 20 days to reach maturity.

Germination of cilantro microgreens is erratic, with some emerging after a week, while other seeds take longer, so be patient. Home Microgreens has several articles on growing cilantro microgreens, and we recommend you read those articles to see how best to grow cilantro.

Many growers soak the seeds for 6- 12 hours before sowing but read this article to see that it doesn’t shorten the time to harvest.

Cover the tray with a blacked-out humidity dome instead of adding weight to the top of the seed. Then mist once a day. Cilantro seeds prefer cooler temperatures (under 70 degrees) during germination. So a seed heat mat isn’t necessary — experiment with placing your germinating trays in cooler areas of the house.

Often, the seed hull or husk remains on the growing plant. Though a bit crunchy, the hull is edible and adds flavor to the microgreens.

Cilantro is a bit more challenging to grow than other microgreens, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be rewarded with a microgreen flavor bomb!
