Chervil seed is much different than other microgreens. The seeds are needle-like, similar to brown to black spruce needles.

Chervil seed is slow to germinate (5 to 7-days) but grows quickly after that. Chervil quickly reaches 3- to 4-inches in height and is ready to harvest in 14- to 18-days.

The leaves are light green in color. The true leaves are very feathery.

Chervil microgreens will also regrow after harvest if care is taken not to trim them too low.

The flavor of chervil is complex. The French consider chervil to be an essential herb and is used to flavor egg, potato, fish, and poultry dishes. It can also be used in green salads, a little bit adds a lot of flavor.

Previously, I attempted to grow chervil outdoors, both in pots and in a raised bed. I got minimal germination, and little growth before the tiny, delicate seedlings gave up. One problems was being advised by the seed company to provide light during the germination period. Well, with Todd’s good advice, I used the blackout method, and was very successful! What a lovely flavor chervil has.
