Red Garnet Mustard Seeds Highlights

  • Germination: 2 to 3 days
  • Soak: No need.
  • Harvest: 10 to 12 days; up to 20 days for true leaves.
  • Flavor: Distinct mustard flavor. These microgreens are pretty spicy but not overly so.
  • Nutrients: Vitamins A, C, E, K, and antioxidants.

These mustard microgreens can be harvested at an early cotyledon stage or grown as long as possible in a microgreen tray into the true leaf stage.

The leaves are a solid red color with green stems. The color is intense, especially under grow lights. We think these are some of the prettiest microgreens.

The true leaves are frilly and beautiful, with textured green leaves with red veins. Eventually, all of the leaves will turn red.

It takes about ten days for Red Garnet Mustard Seeds to grow to harvestable height. But you can grow them one until the true leaf stage. So the harvest time for these microgreens is between days 10 and 30.

These mustard microgreens are great to use fresh in spring rolls, sandwiches, stir fry, or dishes where you want some spice.

The Red Garnet Mustard microgreens will add a zing to your sandwiches and salads.

Control the spicy flavor by adjusting how many microgreens you add to your dish.

Some people wait until the Red Garnet Mustard microgreens develop true leaves before harvesting. We prefer to eat them while they are in the cotyledon stage.

You can also plant Red Garnet Mustard seeds in the garden, where these fantastic colored plants become deep red with tender leaves.

How Much Seed Do You Need For Your Tray?

You don’t need to worry about how much seed you need using Home Microgreen planting trays or 1010 trays. Each seed packet has the correct number of seeds for a perfect Red Garnet Mustard microgreens tray.

The seeding area of a Home Microgreen Tray is 37.5 square inches.

However, if you’re using a different planting tray, use the calculator in the article below to figure out how much seed you need.

Click this link to use the calculator: Home Microgreens Seed Density Calculator.

Seeding Density

Seeding Density for Red Garnet Mustard Seed

By Weight

Home Microgreens Tray: 1.8 grams

1010 Tray: 4.5 grams

1020 Tray: 9.6 grams

By Measuring Spoon

Home Microgreens Tray: 0.5 teaspoons

1010 Tray: 1.4 teaspoons

1020 Tray: 2.8 teaspoons

All volumetric measurements are level, not heaping spoons.

I use these vertical-sided measuring spoons because the seeds are easier to level with the straight sides.

These are my recommended seeding densities to produce a great-looking Red Garnet Mustard microgreens tray.

I like to allow microgreen leaves to develop to a larger size as they provide more nutrition & flavor than producing smaller leaves and stems.

Microgreen density depends on many environmental factors and seed germination percentages.

You may prefer to modify the seeding density, but my seeding densities are a great starting point if nothing else.

Check out the Home Microgreens Seed Density Course if you have a different size tray.
