Soaking Cilantro Seed
I’m a proponent of not soaking microgreen seeds. However, some varieties do much better when their seeds are soaked.
Seed soaking is recommended for seeds that often give people problems with mold formation. This ramps up germination and may be a good time to treat seeds. More on this in a later lesson.
Cilantro seeds are one of those microgreen seeds that do occasionally give people fits with mold. The softer and rough textured hull of cilantro seeds (and the hollow nature of whole cilantro seeds) make for a perfect substrate for mold spores to collect.
For this reason, we soak the seed to start the germination process sooner.

How Much Cilantro Seed to Use For Any One Tray
I love to work in these Pizza Dough Trays, they are very sturdy and have a lot of room. I use them to fill trays with soil and to spray or mist microgreen trays when I sow seeds.
How Much Seed
Here are my recommended weights and volume of seed for the most common tray sizes. The weight and volume is the same whether it is whole or split cilantro seed.
Home Microgreens Tray = 3.5 grams or 0.7 Tablespoons.
1010 Tray = 9.3 grams or 1.8 Tablespoons.
1020 Tray = 18.7 grams or 3.6 Tablespoons.
Amount of seed by square inch of planting surface: Multiply your tray area by 0.9 grams to calculate how much cilantro seed you need for odd-size trays.

Mesh Screen Used to Drain Seed
You will see this screen in a later lesson. But here is the screen size I use. This too can be found in most home stores and maybe even in dollar stores.
