Red Rubin Basil is a variety of sweet basil. It has a deep maroon color with green edges.

This basil makes a beautiful garnish that adds color to basic green salads.

Try this basil in cocktails or other drinks.

Mix both Red Rubin and Genovese Basil to make a beautiful Caprese salad.

The flavor of basil microgreens is more intense than mature basil leaves.

Red Rubin basil often is used as a garnish, but it can also be used in cooking. Excellent for adding Italian flavor to dishes.

Basil is a mucilaginous seed, meaning that it develops a jelly-like coating when it gets wet. Basil loves the light and will do better in a well-lit location. Heat mats will also speed up the germination and growth of basil.

Try to harvest basil clean; it doesn’t store well after being washed. Best if you wash basil microgreens just before using it.

Red Rubin Basil grows slower than Genovese basil, and the leaves don’t get as large.

How Much Seed Do You Need For Your Tray?

You don’t need to worry about how much seed you need if you use Home Microgreen planting trays or 1010 trays. Each seed packet has the correct number of seeds for a perfect tray of Red Rubin Basil.

The seeding area of a Home Microgreen Tray is 37.5 square inches.

However, if you’re using a different planting tray, use the calculators in this post to figure out how many packets or grams of seeds you need.

Seeding Density

Seeding Density for Red Rubin Basil Seed

By Weight

Home Microgreens Tray: 1.0 grams

1010 Tray: 2.7 grams

1020 Tray: 5.3 grams

By Measuring Spoon

Home Microgreens Tray: 0.3 teapoons

1010 Tray: 0.8 teaspoons

1020 Tray: 1.6 teaspoons

All volumetric measurements are level, not heaping spoons.

I use these vertical-sided measuring spoons because the seeds are easier to level with the straight sides.

These are my recommended seeding densities to produce a great-looking tray of Red Rubin Basil microgreens.

I like to allow microgreen leaves to develop to a larger size as they provide more nutrition & flavor than producing smaller leaves and stems.

Microgreen density depends on many environmental factors and seed germination percentages.

You may prefer to modify the seeding density, but my seeding densities are a great starting point if nothing else.

Check out the Home Microgreens Seed Density Course if you have a different size tray.
